SOUTHBURY – Robert J. Steponaitis, 80, of Southbury and formerly of Woodbury for 53 years, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2022 at Maplewood in Newtown surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Priscilla (Zemaitis) Steponaitis.
Robert was born on January 15, 1942 in Waterbury, the son of the late Alfred and Seraphina (Petrauskas) Steponaitis. He graduated from the Rittners School of Floral Design in Boston, was a Certified Master Gardener and former owner of Lakewood Park Florist.
He worked for many years as a floral designer, finally at O’Rourke & Birch, until his retirement in 2020. He had also owned and operated the former Birchwood Rest Home in Waterbury. He treasured his meticulous gardens and created beautiful arrangements, wreaths and bows.
He also liked to cook Lithuanian dishes for his family and friends.
Besides his beloved wife of 59 years of Southbury, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Stone and her husband Harry “Chuck” Stone, of Southbury; his granddaughter, Tess E. Stone of Southbury; his nieces Lynda Cossette and her husband James of Waterbury, Ann Marie Howe and her husband Louis of Middlebury; his nephews, James Steponaitis and his wife Judy, of Waterbury, and Thomas Steponaitis of Columbus, Ohio.
He was predeceased by his brothers John V. and Alfred Steponaitis Jr.
Funeral on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 11 a.m. directly at St. Joseph’s Church, 46 Congress Ave., Waterbury. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Southbury.
