Valutec to Supply Additional TC Continuous Furnace to Pleasant River Lumber

Valutec supplies another TC continuous furnace in North America. The customer is the Pleasant River Sawmill Group, which has already invested in TC continuous furnaces for two sawmills. They are now purchasing a similar facility for their third sawmill in Enfield, Maine.

“This proves that our dryer technology is very competitive for North American sawmills. It is a special honor that Pleasant River chooses Valutec again. They make this choice based on what they have seen our facilities bring them, which of course is a positive signal for the US and Canadian markets, ”said Robert Larsson, CEO of Valutec.

The TC continuous furnace in which Pleasant River is investing will have an annual capacity of 46,000 mmbf and will be delivered to the Enfield sawmill, construction of which began a few years ago. The sawn timber at Enfield has already been dried at the Pleasant River unit in Dover, Maine, but as demand for the company’s products has increased, they are now choosing to invest in a kiln for the sawmill which targets the smallest dimensions.

“We received quotes from other suppliers, but in the end it was not a difficult decision. We are very satisfied with the TC continuous furnaces at our Dover and Jackman sawmills, and we wanted to continue working with Valutec, ”said Jason Brochu, co-owner of Pleasant River.

Valutec is a world leader in continuous furnaces, and the TC model has been successful in markets around the world. They are characterized by high capacity and quality combined with the flexibility to mix the dimensions, which provides the conditions for a high utilization rate.

“It’s a faster and better way to dry wood, especially when it comes to quality and energy consumption. The constant load on the boiler is a huge advantage, ”explains Brochu.

The TC continuous kiln to be built at Enfield will be used to dry balsam fir to a final moisture content of 15% and is divided into five dual zones. It will be equipped with the Valmatics 4.0 control system from Valutec, and the start of assembly is scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.

“We will also invest in a new boiler, which will produce enough electricity to operate two continuous furnaces of this type. We could have another Valutec furnace here in a few years, ”says Brochu.

Valutec built the first modern TC continuous furnace in Sweden over 10 years ago. Since then, the company has provided facilities to many leading sawmills and sawmill groups around the world.

“We have a lot of inquiries from the United States and Canada right now, and the future looks very bright. Much of our success is based on the fact that we have grown alongside the sawmills and seen the challenges they face on a daily basis. This has led to the development of our furnace models and our control systems. It’s a wonderful feeling to see the difference we can make for customers who want to benefit from and expand the use of wood products around the world, ”says Larsson.
